Rightmove and Zoopla – My 5 Top Tips To Help You Buy Or Sell Your House

Rightmove and Zoopla – My 5 Top Tips To Help You Buy Or Sell Your House

We all know about how useful – in fact indispensable – Rightmove and Zoopla are for anyone buying or selling a property.

However there are a number of additional features that many people don’t know about that can really help you, whether you’re selling or buying.

Check these out:

Rightmove:

1. Set up alerts

Search for a property, and choose your criteria (price range, number of bedrooms, search radius). Then click on the “Create an Alert” button (bottom left).

You can choose how often you want to receive your alerts. Great if you’re looking to buy, and also useful if you’re selling a property, to keep an eye on your “competitors”.

2. Draw a Search

This is really easy – just watch the Rightmove Draw a Search video.

You can then view properties in your chosen area either on a map, or in a list.

You can select the area(s) you want to look at (up to 20 areas) and save these for the future. You can also set up alerts for these, as explained above, so that when new properties come on the market you’re made aware of them immediately.

3. Price Comparison Report

The Rightmove Price Comparison Report gives you a snapshot of what’s happening in your chosen area. You can see what’s on the market, what’s been on the market in the past, and recent sold prices, all on one page.

Zoopla

1. Current Property Values

Go to Current Property Values and add your chosen postcode. You’ll see it brings up a list of properties. Some will have an estimated value, others will have a button to click, “Get Estimate”.

If you’re planning to sell your house you should ensure there is an accurate value for your property. You can create (or refine) this. It’s important to do this, particularly if you’ve improved it  since the original Zoopla estimate was created.

If you’re buying it’s useful to compare the values of similar properties.

Important: If buying, treat Zoopla values as a guide only!

2. Keywords

When you select your search criteria, you can add keywords underneath. So for example if you want a corner plot, type in these words and your search will show all properties with a corner plot. Or, if you’re looking for a property to renovate, type in “in need of modernisation”.

Choose whatever keywords are relevant to you. This can be a great way of honing in on what you’re looking for.
