How Much Is My House Worth?

How Much Is My House Worth?

My house is worth 3.9% more than a year ago according to the July House Price statistics just issued by Nationwide.

OK, that’s the national average increase, which includes London where prices are shooting up. Try telling property owners in the backwaters of Rochdale, Rotherham or Redcar  that prices are rising and they’ll laugh in your face. For details of regional price changes since 2000, see here.

There are also some good free online calculators which can help you to work out how much your house is worth.

Anyway, the Land Registry, Halifax and Nationwide all show that nationally prices have risen for several months in a row. With an improving economy, Funding for Lending, Government support schemes like Help to Buy, and the increasing availability of mortgage finance, this trend seems certain to continue.

Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing depends on your point of view (or, more likely, where you are on the property ladder). But it looks like the roller coaster UK property market has started to climb again.
